The reason bullmastiffs ears 'fly' is that when they are teething it causes them some discomfort ...the ears rise in reaction to this discomfort ...some dogs never have this ...some suffer greatly .
Their adult teeth start to come in around four months of age, starting with the incisors. The canines break through around five months of age followed by the premolars and molars...this is why in most dogs... the ears ...'fly'!!....
if flying they need to be taped before they are five months old . Ear taping is easier if you use duck tape ...it is easier to stick and the dog finds it much more difficult to remove it ...and so eventually give up ... ;D ...the method i use is quite simple you just need one strip of duck tape about an inch wide and 4 inches long ...make sure your dogs ears have been cleaned and are dry . ..
Take the ear in your hand and from the lowest point of the ear ...the 'v'...fold the ear in half ....inside out as long as your 'v ' point is exact the fold will be correct ...
follow the fold up towards the head and tape where you are unable to fold any more ...closer to the head the better .
so in the end you end up with a little roll with tape around ...like bunches...or pig tails
...leave on for three days at a time ...if they don't sit correctly the first time..repeat at three day intervals ...never leaving for more than three days at a time ...if you find these instruction a little hazy the photos should help...
Finished result should be perfect ear setting
